Classics at the Chrysalis - Rescheduled 9/18

Music lovers of all ages will love the Columbia Orchestra’s new Classics at the Chrysalis concert! Presented in partnership by the Inner Arbor Trust and Columbia Orchestra, this exciting program features music you’ll recognize from Holst’s The Planets, Berlioz’s Symphonie Fantastique, Rachmaninoff’s Rhapsody, Dvorak’s New World, and Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition.

The Orchestra will introduce you to music from their upcoming season by Copland and Prokofiev and play some marvelous new works from around the world including Gabriela Ortiz’s nightclub inspired “Antrópolis,” an Indian-American work combining Hindustani and Western singing, and Duke Ellington’s homage to Dr. Martin Luther King. The concert will last approximately one hour and forty-five minutes including intermission. The park setting and short pieces on the program make this a perfect concert for the entire family!

Join the Dan + Claudia Zanes for a FREE Chrysalis Kids Concert!

“The family-music genre’s most outspoken and eloquent advocate,” -Time Magazine

Grammy Award winner Dan Zanes and Haitian American music therapist/Jazz vocalist, Claudia Zanes take their audiences of all ages on a journey through Dan’s songbook of folk and blues songs. Dan and Claudia Zanes share their love of forgotten classics and new creations with audiences around the world. National Public Radio claims they are, “The Gold Standard in kid’s music.” His critically acclaimed music has been featured on Sesame Street, Playhouse Disney, Nickelodeon, HBO Family, and Sprout. With Dan’s songs and Claudia’s vocals, they invite their audiences to dance and sing along in a joyful, homespun, musical celebration of 21st-century social music.

The Chrysalis Kids Series is presented in partnership with Howard County Recreation and Parks.

Join Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, a part of the FREE Community Concerts at the Chrysalis!

On Saturday, September 18, the BSO, in partnership with the Inner Arbor Trust, will present a free, outdoor performance at The Chrysalis in Howard County at 1 pm. Created with budding music enthusiasts and their families in mind, the 45-minute program, under the baton of BSO Assistant Conductor Jonathan Rush, features recognizable favorites of John Williams’ “Adventures on Earth” from E.T. and Dukas’ The Sorcerer’s Apprentice alongside the BSO’s retelling of Prokofiev’s Peter and Wolf with lyrics and narration by Wordsmith.

Naked Mole Rat Gets Dressed: The Rock Experience is a rock 'n roll parable with a significant message for today's audiences, based on the hit children's book by Mo Willems. Wilbur and all his fellow naked mole rats in the Tunnel have always been, well...naked. Wondering what other possibilities are out there, Wilbur discovers a love for clothing and style. When word of his new passion turns the Tunnel upside down, he proves to everyone that there's no need to be just like everyone else.

A special lesson and rock show all in one, Naked Mole Rat Gets Dressed has energetic songs, quirky characters, and a story unlike any other.

Chrysalis Kids: In Treble with Miss Rowe featuring DC Strings Workshop (FREE)

Join DC Strings Workshop as they share their love of classical and contemporary orchestra and chamber music with the youngest members of our community! DC Strings Workshop works to build community and expand horizons by engaging diverse audiences, supplying instruments to deserving students, and working to expose students and adults alike to the music of women and underrepresented people of color.

This 60 minute concert is an introduction to both classical and contemporary music for all, but especially accessible to preschool and early elementary students. Come prepared to dance and wiggle - classical music has never been more kid-friendly or fun!

Gates open at 9:30 a.m. for playtime with Imagination Playground, and the performance starts at 10:00 a.m. Beverages will be available for sale, but feel free to bring a picnic (no glass or alcohol - alcohol available onsite).

Chrysalis Kids: Marsha and the Positrons (FREE)

Our FREE family concerts start with a fun mix of science and art! Marsha and the Positrons are a DC-based kindie (kids + indie rock) band known for shows that are a ton of family-friendly fun! Both playful and educational, our original songs about science and how the world works are entertaining for adults as well as kids. Besides getting audiences singing along and dancing to songs that inspire curiosity about science, we play traditional favorites, kid-appropriate pop covers and parodies. Our goal is to send families home with smiles on their faces, plant the seeds for good conversations, and share our positive energy with the audience!

Gates open at 3:30 p.m. for playtime with Imagination Playground, and the performance starts at 4:00 p.m. Beverages will be available for sale, but feel free to bring a picnic (no glass or alcohol - alcohol available onsite).
