Lisa Mathews, is the lead singer of Grammy-nominated Baltimore kids rock band Milkshake and creator and host of Young at Heart, WTMD’s Saturday morning radio show for families. She also visits countless area schools as a teaching artist with A4L and Wolf Trap Institute. Join her on the Chrysalis lawn for an hour of kid-friendly music and fun as she spins her favorite tunes during her Shake it Up Dance Jam!

Join Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, a part of the FREE Community Concerts at the Chrysalis!

On Saturday, September 18, the BSO, in partnership with the Inner Arbor Trust, will present a free, outdoor performance at The Chrysalis in Howard County at 1 pm. Created with budding music enthusiasts and their families in mind, the 45-minute program, under the baton of BSO Assistant Conductor Jonathan Rush, features recognizable favorites of John Williams’ “Adventures on Earth” from E.T. and Dukas’ The Sorcerer’s Apprentice alongside the BSO’s retelling of Prokofiev’s Peter and Wolf with lyrics and narration by Wordsmith.

Naked Mole Rat Gets Dressed: The Rock Experience is a rock 'n roll parable with a significant message for today's audiences, based on the hit children's book by Mo Willems. Wilbur and all his fellow naked mole rats in the Tunnel have always been, well...naked. Wondering what other possibilities are out there, Wilbur discovers a love for clothing and style. When word of his new passion turns the Tunnel upside down, he proves to everyone that there's no need to be just like everyone else.

A special lesson and rock show all in one, Naked Mole Rat Gets Dressed has energetic songs, quirky characters, and a story unlike any other.

Chrysalis Kids: Marsha and the Positrons (FREE)

Our FREE family concerts start with a fun mix of science and art! Marsha and the Positrons are a DC-based kindie (kids + indie rock) band known for shows that are a ton of family-friendly fun! Both playful and educational, our original songs about science and how the world works are entertaining for adults as well as kids. Besides getting audiences singing along and dancing to songs that inspire curiosity about science, we play traditional favorites, kid-appropriate pop covers and parodies. Our goal is to send families home with smiles on their faces, plant the seeds for good conversations, and share our positive energy with the audience!

Gates open at 3:30 p.m. for playtime with Imagination Playground, and the performance starts at 4:00 p.m. Beverages will be available for sale, but feel free to bring a picnic (no glass or alcohol - alcohol available onsite).

Join members of the Columbia Concert Band for their children's concert Columbia Concert Band's Musical Journey: A Musical Instrument Presentation for Children on Sunday, September 16 at 3:00 p.m. The event features an instrument petting zoo and instrument family small ensembles: woodwinds, brass, and percussion. The program includes Along the Santa Fe TrailYankee DoodleFantasy on a Japanese Folk Song, Blue Ridge Reel, and Africa.

Open to all ages, recommended ages 5-13.

End of Summer Reading Bash: Bash the Trash!

Celebrate the last days of summer with music and a movie! Kick off the evening at the Chrysalis with a performance and activities by Bash the Trash, a group that builds and performs with musical instruments made from recycled materials. Then parade over to Merriweather Movie Nights to sing along with a screening of The Greatest Showman at 7:00 p.m.

Chrysalis gates open at 4 p.m. Merriweather Movie Nights ticketing is separate.

This is a free event, however, all attendees must have a free ticket.  Tickets are available via Eventbrite.

A five time Parents’ Choice Award winner, Barry is a pioneer in the world of music for children. He has recorded and shared his songs, poems, stories, and books with audiences throughout the world and has performed at The White House, The Smithsonian, and The Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. He gives concerts and author visits in schools and performing art centers from Washington DC to Fairbanks, Alaska and was given a Special Library Recognition Award for his “ability to communicate with and excite children to read.” Barry’s songs are featured in television shows, feature films, and dozens of TV ads throughout the world. His books and poems have been translated into other languages and his songs have been recorded and performed by singers and musicians internationally. He has written songs for Sesame Street and The Weekly Reader and starred in a television show for children that won two Emmy awards.

Gates open at 9 a.m. so join us to play in the Park with Imagination Playground before enjoying the music.  This is a free event, however all attendees must have a ticket.  Tickets available via Eventbrite.

ONE MORE TIME: THE MUSIC OF COUNT BASIE

Following the success of their April In Paris Concert, the Columbia Jazz Band is excited to team with Inner Arbor Trust to once again present the music of Count Basie. From the early hits like One O'Clock Jump, April in Paris and Lil Darlin to the blockbuster hits with Frank Sinatra that included Come Fly With Me and My Kind of Town. Join us for a swinging evening of music from one of the Big Band Era's greatest bands, Count Basie. 

Concessions, including beer and wine, are available for purchase at this event.   This is a seated event, seats are first-come, first-served and may run out.

Gates open at 6 p.m. Discounted drink specials and games on the lawn from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. 

Tickets are $12 in advance, $17 week of, and $20 at the door.  Tickets available via Eventbrite.

Join members of the Columbia Orchestra for an Educational Outreach program on Saturday, July 21 at 10:00 a.m. Music Director Jason Love leads Meet the Instruments, an interactive program to introduce young children to orchestral instruments. Children can sing along as they learn about the different families of instruments and hear music from around the world and their favorite movies. 

Open to all ages, recommended ages 2-6.

The grandsons, Jr., is the kids band version of DC-area roots rock superstars, The Grandsons. Kids and their parents will dig the upbeat mix of rock, swing, New Orleans R&B, country, and Latin music we call Americana. Over the past 25 years performing as The Grandsons, the band has noticed that many of their songs resonate with the younger crowd. As the grandsons, Jr., they combine new material learned especially for the younger set, with Grandsons tunes that have always been popular with the kids.  Gates open at 9 a.m. for playtime in the Park and the performance starts at 10 a.m.

A long time ago and not so very far away....Learn the ways of the Jedi with Panniken Moonjumper, a true Master of Intergalactic fun and adventure.
